Bulldogs to Open Season This Weekend Ranked 3rd in the Nation https://www.ssc.edu/bulldogs-to-open-2019-20-season-this-weekend-ranked-3rd-in-the-nation/ Tue, 29 Oct 2019 15:34:08 +0000 https://www.ssc.edu/?p=41175 SOUTH HOLLAND, IL–The South Suburban College Basketball Programs are gearing up for the 2019-20 season with the Men’s Team set to open at home this Saturday, November 2nd vs. Northwestern University (Club). The Bulldogs are ranked #3 in the newest NJCAA Division II Pre-Season Poll. They will feature 12 new players and will be vying for their 10th Regional Championship and National Championship Tournament appearance during Head Coach John Pigatti’ s 14 seasons at the school.

“This year’s team has a very versatile mix to it,” said Coach Pigatti. “We have 12 new players and several who can play different positions on the floor. It should be a very interesting season!”

The Lady Bulldogs will open on the road November 5th vs. Wilbur Wright College at 5 p.m. They are ranked #18 in the Preseason Poll and will be defending their 2018-19 Regional Championship with an eye toward another National Tournament berth. The Lady Bulldogs home opener is on November 12th vs. Waubonsee Community College at 5 p.m.

SSC Lady Bulldogs Basketball Coach Darrell Scott Wins 500 https://www.ssc.edu/ssc-lady-bulldogs-basketball-coach-darrell-scott-wins-500/ Mon, 10 Dec 2018 18:41:13 +0000 http://www.ssc.edu/?p=34137 SOUTH HOLLAND, IL – South Suburban College Head Women’s Basketball Coach Darrell Scott earned his 500th victory as the leader of Lady Bulldogs. Scott recently reached the milestone with a 78-32 win on the road vs. Oakton Community College. The win catapulted Coach Scott’s career record at SSC to 500-395 since 1992.

“Even though this is a personal accomplishment, it’s still more of a team accomplishment to me,” said Coach Scott. “The number 500 is a testament to all of the student athletes that I have coached over these number of years—they put in the hard work and effort. They allowed me to push them and create an environment of success at South Suburban College. I’m very proud of what these young ladies have given me.”

Coach Scott is a 1987 graduate of Grinnell College and his 26 years at SSC have been his first and only head coaching job in the women’s ranks. He was inducted into to the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) Region IV Hall of Fame in 2016.

Darrell Scott’s teams have made five appearances at the national tournament, have won five Regional Championships, and have been region finalists several more times. Scott also has coached 12 NJCAA All-Americans during his tenure.

Coach Scott added, “While we’ve had some great years, many good years, and a few decent years, each team is special and this year is no different. And I believe this 2018 team has a legitimate shot at getting back to the National Tournament.”

The Lady Bulldogs are 6-3 on the season at the time of this publication. Scott’s teams have made appearances at the national tournament in 2000, 2001, 2005, 2013 and 2015, have won regional championship 5 times and have been region finalists 5 times. Coach Scott also has 12 NJCAA All-Americans under his tenure.

Coach Scott is a 1987 graduate of Grinnell College and is entering his 24th season of coaching women’s basketball at South Suburban College. This is his first and only head coaching tenure in the women’s ranks. His record is 450-298.

Scott’s teams have made appearances at the national tournament in 2000, 2001, 2005, 2013 and 2015, have won regional championship 5 times and have been region finalists 4 times. Coach Scott also has 12 NJCAA All-Americans under his tenure.

His Lady Bulldogs will host Illinois Central at South Suburban College on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 1:00 pm. This dedicated coach will be honored at 3:00 pm immediately following the game.

South Suburban College Women’s Basketball Team Advances to National Tournament https://www.ssc.edu/south-suburban-college-womens-basketball-team-advances-to-national-tournament/ Fri, 13 Mar 2015 14:30:26 +0000 http://www.ssc.edu/?p=10016 SOUTH HOLLAND, IL–The South Suburban College (SSC) Women’s Basketball Team (25-7) defeated Kankakee Community College by a score of 70-62 to win the Region IV Championship and advance to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Tournament. Freshman guard CC Lopez was named 1st Team All-Region IV and Regional Tournament MVP, and sophomore guard Alyssa Gebo was named All-Tournament. Freshman guard Tyler Brown-Henderson was also named to the All-Region IV 2nd Team. SSC Head Coach Darrel Scott was named Regional Coach of the Year, marking his 5th time receiving the award.

The National Tournament will be held at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, KS, from March 17-21, 2015. The #7-seeded Lady Bulldogs are opening vs. #10 Monroe College, NY, on Tuesday, March 17th at 11:00 a.m. National Tournament games can be viewed from the NJCAA website www.njcaa.org under Division II Women’s Basketball.

South Suburban College Basketball Teams Advance to Regional Championships in Kankakee https://www.ssc.edu/south-suburban-college-basketball-teams-advance-to-regional-championships-in-kankakee/ Wed, 04 Mar 2015 18:23:42 +0000 http://www.ssc.edu/?p=9857 SOUTH HOLLAND, IL–The South Suburban College (SSC) Basketball Teams won their National Junior Conference Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Region IV Semi-Final Games over the weekend and will now advance to the Regional Finals this Saturday in Kankakee.

The 24-7 Lady Bulldogs defeated Oakton Community College by a score of 60-55. SSC was led by three freshman: CiCi Lopez (Whiting High School, Indiana) scored 15 points, Shayla Joyner (Hillcrest High School, Markham) collected 14 points and 6 rebounds, and Tyler Brown-Henderson (St. Francis de Sales, Chicago) posted a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Their Regional Championship Game will be played in Kankakee this Saturday, March 7th at 12 noon vs. the host team Kankakee Community College.

The 21-11 Men’s Team defeated Lake County 73-67 led by sophomores Lavell Boyd (Farragut, Chicago) with 29 points and 5 assists, and Jordan Perry (Crete-Monee, Crete) with 18 points and 6 rebounds. The Bulldogs will take on Olive Harvey Community College in Kankakee this Saturday, March 7th at 7:30 p.m.
